Sansevieria (which you may know as Snake Plants) have had a massive comeback in the last couple of years. They’re extremely low maintenance, proven to be the best at purifying the air, and can tolerate almost anything you can throw at them! The ‘Moonshine’ variety have lovely thick and flat leaves in a pale green/silvery shade - they look great in and amongst darker plants to make them pop. 

Light: Direct light, indirect light, or shade

Sansevieria will tolerate any light level so long as there is some natural light in the room. Bright light will see them put on the most visible growth, but they will survive in deep shade too. 

Watering: Low

The only sure way to kill a sansevieria is to overwater it - make sure to let the soil fully dry out between waterings. How often you water will depend on the amount of light it's getting so be sure to check the soil has fully dried out by testing through the drainage hole at the base of the pot. The sun is stronger in Summer (this is also the natural growing season for most houseplants so they'll be thirstier) so they will need watering more during this time. 

Humidity: Low

It can tolerate most levels of humidity found in the home, including areas with very dry air or a strong draught.

Note:

Sansevieria are one of the few plants that like having compact roots, so re-potting should be done very infrequently. Make sure to use a cactus soil or other free draining compost and plant into a pot with a drainage hole. Feed your Sansevieria during Spring and Summer to make up for the loss of nutrients that would usually come with fresh compost. 

Propagating Snake plants is extremely easy - you can simply divide the main plant into multiple smaller plants each in their own pot. They can also be propagated by stem cutting - taking a healthy leaf and cut it horizontally across the leaf into pieces roughly 2-3inches tall. Allow them to callous over for a day or two. Pop these pieces about 1inch deep into soil (make sure to put the lower part of the leaf into the soil) and watch them flourish!
