Also known as the barrel cactus, this houseplant requires very little care. Place in direct sunlight, or as bright a light as possible, and water sparingly - especially in the winter months when it's large, barrel shaped body will store enough water for the season. Never allow to stand in water as this will cause it to rot. It prefers warm and dry air but will withstand temperature drops overnight.
In a south facing window with plenty of direct sunlight, it's thick spines will turn red.
